Aerospace Cables

OVERVIEW

Aerospace linking cutting-edge cables to high – flying industry

Prysmian Group has been a leader in the aerospace cable market since the 1960s when our predecessor, Fileca, provided first generations of Aerospace cables to the Concorde programme.

Today, we continue to build on that prestigious heritage, leveraging decades of knowledge and expertise to bring customers the latest in high-quality cable and wiring solutions for civil, military and space aviation applications.

Our engineering team designs and develops very complex cables. They use modern design and control means to characterise the technical performance of cables and carry out qualification-approval testing for customers’ applications. Due to flexible operations, we are able to provide customers with solutions to many of their design challenges. A flexible and efficient supply chain.

We have implemented a Supply Chain Policy that allows us to meet our customers’ logistics requirements more quickly and effectively than ever before.

Our products are distributed all over the world and can be procured directly from us through our partnerships with leading aerospace component distributors.

We are constantly growing to meet aerospace demand.

Our global capacity in France and Mexico is more than 60,000 km of cables and optical fibre per year.

Inside Aerospace

With the continued increase in electronic applications in the aerospace industry, Draka Fileca designs and develops wires and cables that can withstand the severe constraints placed upon them by the full spectrum of space environments.

Our range of space cables is ESA Qualified.
Draka Fileca is specialised in the production of dedicated cables for both civil and military aviation applications since the early 1960s. Integrating the most innovative technologies in the production of electrical and optical cables for aircraft and helicopter manufacturers all over the globe. We've continually met the specifications and expectations of the industry for reduced dimensions and weight, arc-tracking resistance, great mechanical resistance, resistance to chemicals and high temperatures.
From modelling and designing, to technology and production, our aviation portfolio reflects our expertise in the industry, while demonstrating the sheer breadth of our manufacturing processes in the production of premium and innovative aviation cables including:
  • Airframe/Hook-up wires
  • Copper data transmission cables
  • Optical fibre data transmission cables
  • Special cables

Quality, safety and environment

We offer the highest-quality products on the market. Not only are we certified by ISO 9001:2008 (version 2000) and EN9100:2009 (BAE, AECMA) for both French and Mexican operations, but we also have customers that can provide written acknowledgements regarding our competences (Airbus UK, Quality Accreditation Eurocopter 2000). Our Space range is ESA certified.

Our employees are a key factor in our continuous effort to improve safety, product quality and productivity within the business, and so, we commit to OHSAS 18001 for the safety of our people.

Our priority is the satisfaction of our customers.

Industrial know – how

In an increasingly competitive international environment, Draka Fileca meets and exceeds customer expectations by offering innovative, high-performance and reliable products that anticipate market requirements, supplemented with a level of service that is second-to-none.

Creating the products of the future

We have an Innovation Policy in partnership with the engineering departments and qualification laboratories of various customers and suppliers. Our R&D department is focused on developing new technologies to:

  • Meet future Aerospace expectations;

  • Develop our product range and provide added-value to customers (such as weight reduction in aluminum-based cables; ease of installation of low-bending radius power feeder cables; performance improvements that include higher-voltage capabilities and fire resistance; higher data transmission levels with optical cables, etc.);

  • Support customers with expertise and advanced engineering.

FAR 25 compliance

Each aerospace cable type is carefully designed to comply with the safety requirements described in FAR 25 for flammability, smoke-density and toxicity. Selection of materials is crucial to ensure the cables, as far as is possible, do not contribute to fire propagation.

Another key is Arc-Tracking Resistance, which evaluates the resistance in our cables and allows us to assess the implications for any new development of airframe wires.
